On May 16th, 2013, the HR BioTech Connect group gathered to hear a presentation entitled “Building a Mission-Driven Organization.”
The presentation was delivered by Andy Porter, Vice President of Human Resources & Organizational Development at Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, along with members of his team.
During this meeting, the HR BioTech Connect group learned lessons on how to build an organization that supports their mission. Specifically, the Merrimack Pharmaceuticals team focused on sharing lessons and practices in these 4 key areas:
- Their underlying philosophy on people and organizations
- Their commitment to a flat, team-based structure (how we’ve eliminated the need for departments)
- Their use of networks as a means to achieve our objectives
- Their HR systems and processes (or lack thereof) that support this model
It was certainly a fascinating meeting!
